Mui Fridays: 07
The Music
I don’t know if this is something everyone already knows about, but we’ve just discovered these videos on Youtube that are a combination of vibey visuals and ambient sounds. One of our favourites is ‘Cozy Apartment’ - it’s like background music but the visuals make it feel fancy.
The Drinks
Woah, what do you mean we skipped on the shots and cocktails this week? Yes, you heard right. After a big weekend last weekend (a 30th on Friday night and a 21st on Saturday night) we were still feeling it. Blink 182 said it best when they said “well I guess this is growing up”. So instead, we opted for a very grown up sparkling mineral water with a dash of ginger and lemongrass cordial.
The Food
I know what you’re thinking…. background music and mineral water…these Mui Fridays are getting lame. But trust me when I tell you that the foooood is next level delicious. So much flavour you’ll be happy you didn’t over stimulate your senses with hectic music and tasty cocktails.
Hanger Steak Salad with Harissa Potatoes.
Now, there’s a couple of recipes we used, and combined, and riffed on. For the steak and potatoes we took most of the recipe from Bon Appetit here. For the salad, we kinda made it up but also used the garlic corn and chickpea part from Bon Appetit here.
For the steak, follow as per the recipe.
For the potatoes, follow as per recipe and then RIFF IT after boiling them, chuck em on a roasting tray with oil of choice (we use duck fat) for 15mins-toss-15mins. Then go back and follow the rest of the recipe.
For the salad, COMBINE & RIFF IT we used mixed lettuce leaves, avocado, quick pickled onions, tomato, radish & the garlic, corn and chickpea mixture. Dressed with olive oil and salt.
The Entertainment
To make up for the lack of excitement in the music and drinks department I am going to give you not one, but two forms of entertainment.
The first, a show to watch with your dinner. The Resort. It’s on Stan and new episodes come out on Fridays (very convenient for Mui Fridays).
The second is Jonathan Van Ness’ Skillshare class ‘The Ultimate Self-Care Playbook: Discover and Nurture Your Centred Self’. Jonathan is one of those people that makes you feel unconditionally loved, even though you’ve never met them. This is the kind of content I love consuming.
If you don’t have a Skillshare account, you can get a 2 month free trial via another one of my favourite creators, Alexandra Gater here.
